President and CEO Tracey C. Ballas
Tracey C. Ballas is the President and CEO of School-Age NOTES. After serving as a consultant for and friend of School-Age NOTES, Tracey purchased the company on June 1, 2005, after the passing of founder and President Rich Scofield. Tracey has had a long career in the after-school field, including acting as an Education Training Associate for the National Institute on Out of School Time (NIOST) at the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women for the past 17 years. She is a frequent trainer and public speaker in national demand on issues related to after school care. Tracey is also the former statewide coordinator of the Ohio Project on Out of School Time and the former director of the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association. She served as director of Child Care Services for the YMCA of Central Ohio and was the director of the Zanesville City Schools Before and After School Programs. She has testified in Congress and served as advisor to former Vice-President Albert Gore on the Welfare to Work Committee. Tracey has authored a number of articles and has been featured in Child magazine, Working Mother and Parenting magazine.
Managing Editor Erika Konowalow
Erika Konowalow oversees the production of the monthly School-Age NOTES newsletter and the company’s Annual AfterSchool Catalog. In addition, she writes for the newsletter and edits books published by School-Age NOTES. Erika has been a copy editor, reporter and designer during her years as a journalist, working at The Columbus Dispatch, The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News and The Cincinnati Enquirer. She received her master’s degree from Franklin University, a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and an associate’s degree from Delta College in Michigan.
